About the Centre

I Can … Therapy Centre is a centre devoted to children with developmental delays and/or disabilities as well as their families. It is a place where everyone is welcome and each child and family unit is valued and respected equally and individually.

I Can…. Therapy Centre believes that every parent is the expert of their own child. The role of professionals is to empower parents through knowledge, skill development, and education to learn about and understand their child.

I Can … Therapy Centre provides intensive centre based therapy, school visits, and home programming to ensure the maximum gains by each child.

I Can … Therapy Centre is founded on the principles of Sensory Integration Theory developed by Dr A. Jean Ayres. www.siglobalnetwork.org It uses a bottom-up approach to develop the skills required for all learning, rather than teaching individual tasks. Without accurate development of the sensory system children typically struggle with tasks that other children appear to do naturally such as playing with others, controlling emotions, writing and reading, moving, and paying attention. An assessment will determine if the difficulties are a sensory processing problem, emotional regulation issues, or executive functioning issues (organisation or planning, problem-solving, thinking). Sensory Integration theory focuses on the underlying causes for the child’s delays or difficulties.
